The Nellie McClung Girls’ Junior High Program is a program of choice within Edmonton Public Schools, and our students come from all over the city. The students in the Music Option Class have a variety of musical backgrounds and interests, as can be seen in their video. Some chose to use classroom instruments, and others chose to bring instruments from home. Some love to sing, and others love to accompany. Some read musical notation and others play by ear. The girls chose the song, “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen, by consensus and collaboratively worked out their version of it, with minimal guidance from their teacher, Rebecca Patterson, who is very proud of their process and the final product.
